Marquez completed the Sprint and Grand Prix double to close Jorge Martin's MotoGP championship lead to two points. Martin started from pole with a new lap record and led the opening ten laps of Sunday's 24-lap race before Marquez passed at Turn 9 on Lap 11. Marquez pulled clear to take his 79th career victory, with Martin second and Marco Bezzecchi third. Ai Ogura finished sixth on home soil, while Diogo Moreira took ninth.
Martin remains on 333 points, with Marquez on 331 heading into the next round. Moreira's second-place finish in Saturday's Sprint also made him the first Brazilian rider to take a MotoGP Sprint podium.
In Moto2, Guevara converted his fourth pole of the season into his second consecutive victory after championship leader Manuel Gonzalez was forced to start from pit lane with a clutch issue. Gonzalez finished without points, cutting his lead over Guevara from 35.5 points to 10.5. Tony Arbolino took second for his first podium of the season, ending a 34-race wait, while Filip Salač completed the podium.
Almansa also started from pole in Moto3, setting a new all-time lap record before holding off Maximo Quiles on the final lap for his third win of 2026. Alvaro Carpe finished third, while Brian Uriarte recovered to fourth after a double Long Lap penalty. Quiles had faced a first title match point, but Almansa's victory kept the title decision open for Indonesia. Ryusei Yamanaka finished eighth, his best result of the season at home.
Marquez, Guevara and Almansa leave Motegi with victories, while Martin, Gonzalez, and Quiles remain in front of their respective championship battles. Indonesia will decide how much further each title fight can be pushed.
